I think we can get a fairly decent grasp of incarceration over the years. I just addressed this topic related to watching “The 13th” by Ava DuVarney. “The 13th” and its Glaring Omission: Actual Crime that Mirrors Demographics. Excerpt:

“When one looks at the face of non-drug related crime and its victims — which often affects minority groups in the USA — one sees that the incarceration rate mirrors the crime rate. Repeat: Mirrors. Roughly, the incarceration rate per 100,000 (not population) has tripled, but so has all crime.”
